For Pakistani E-commerce Stores

The checkout Pakistani shoppers actually complete

An ecommerce payment gateway lets an online store accept money at checkout and settle it into the merchant’s bank account. In Pakistan that means cards, Raast, JazzCash, easypaisa and bank transfer in one checkout. Rapid Gateway adds all of them to a Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix or custom store through a single integration, with 2.5% MDR on cards and T+1 settlement.

How an ecommerce payment gateway works in Pakistan

When a shopper hits Place order, the gateway takes over: it presents the payment methods you have enabled, authenticates the payment on the right rail — card networks for Visa/Mastercard/PayPak, Raast for bank-to-bank, JazzCash and easypaisa for wallets — and returns a result to your store so the order can be confirmed. The money then settles into your business bank account on T+1.

For a Pakistani store, the part that decides whether you make money is coverage. Your customers are split across rails that do not overlap: the easypaisa household is not the credit-card household. Every method missing from your checkout is a segment of shoppers who either fall back to cash on delivery or leave entirely.

Built to recover the carts you're losing today

Pakistani shoppers abandon checkouts when they don't see their preferred payment method. Rapid Gateway shows every option, every time.

Six reasons Pakistani shoppers abandon your checkout

Cart abandonment is rarely about price. By the time a shopper reaches checkout they have already decided to buy — something on the payment screen changed their mind.

The method they expected isn’t there

A shopper who uses easypaisa and sees only cards leaves. This is the single largest source of abandoned carts in Pakistani ecommerce, and the cheapest to fix — show every rail, every time.

The checkout throws them off your site

A jarring redirect to an unbranded bank page reads as a scam to a first-time buyer. A branded, on-domain checkout keeps the trust you spent ad budget building.

One failed attempt ends the order

Wallet balance short, OTP timed out, bank had a blip. Without an instant retry that offers a different method, that order is gone — even though the customer still wants to buy.

It’s slow on a phone on 4G

The overwhelming majority of Pakistani ecommerce traffic is mobile. A checkout that takes five seconds to paint loses buyers before they ever see a payment button.

Prepaid feels riskier than COD

Shoppers default to cash on delivery because they don’t trust that a refund will happen. Visible refund policy, 3-D Secure and a recognisable checkout move buyers to prepaid.

No incentive to pay now

A small prepaid discount or free delivery on prepaid orders is usually cheaper than the return rate you are absorbing on COD. The maths almost always favours prepaid.

Cash on delivery vs prepaid: the actual economics

COD is not free — it is a cost you absorb in working capital, returns and courier fees instead of a line item you can see. Here is the honest comparison.

FactorCash on deliveryPrepaid online payment
Cash tied up per orderLocked until the courier remits — often 7–15 days Settled T+1
Return / refusal rateHigh — the buyer has not committed anything Materially lower — payment is the commitment
Cost of a refused deliveryTwo-way shipping, repacking, lost stock time Only a refund, if the customer asks
Courier / COD handling feeCharged per order, plus remittance delay MDR only — 2% wallets, 2.5% cards
Customer data qualityFake numbers and addresses are common Verified at payment
Reconciliation effortMatch courier remittance sheets manually Automatic in the dashboard
Fraud exposureOrder-level abuse, no recourse 3-D Secure and risk scoring apply
What it is good forFirst-time buyers and low-trust categories Everything else — and repeat customers

Keep COD — removing it costs you first-time buyers. The win is shifting repeat customers to prepaid, where your cash settles on T+1 instead of after a courier remittance cycle.

Three steps to a live checkout

Same-day onboarding is normal. Most stores are taking their first prepaid order before the week ends.

1

Onboard your store

KYC in your business name, your store URL, and the bank account you want settlements in. No setup fee and no monthly minimum — same-day onboarding is normal.

2

Install the plugin or call the API

Install the WooCommerce, Shopify or Wix plugin and paste your live key — or POST a payment intent from a custom stack and handle the signed webhook.

3

Turn on the methods you want

Enable cards, Raast, JazzCash, easypaisa and bank transfer from the dashboard. They appear at checkout immediately — no redeploy.

No store yet? You can still take payments

A large share of Pakistani ecommerce happens on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, not on a storefront. Payment links and QR codes work the same way there: you send a link in the chat where the sale is already happening, the customer pays with whatever method they prefer, and it lands in the same dashboard and the same settlement as a website order.

If you invoice rather than sell from a catalogue — custom orders, wholesale, made-to-order — online invoicing covers that, including recurring billing for repeat customers. Plenty of merchants start on links, prove the demand, and build the store afterwards.

Ecommerce payment gateway FAQs

What Pakistani store owners ask us most. Don’t see yours? Ask the team directly.

What is the best payment gateway for ecommerce in Pakistan?

The right gateway is the one that covers every rail your customers actually use — cards, Raast, JazzCash, easypaisa and bank transfer — publishes its pricing, and has a ready-made plugin for your platform. Rapid Gateway does all three at 2% MDR on wallets and 2.5% on cards with T+1 settlement. We also maintain an honest side-by-side of the main Pakistani options if you want to compare before committing.

How do I add a payment gateway to my Shopify or WooCommerce store in Pakistan?

Install the Rapid Gateway plugin from the Shopify App Store or the WooCommerce plugin directory, paste your live API key from the dashboard, and enable the payment methods you want. Cards, Raast and wallets then appear at checkout. Most stores go live the same day they onboard; no developer is needed for either platform.

What does an ecommerce payment gateway cost in Pakistan?

Rapid Gateway charges no setup fee and no monthly subscription — only a merchant discount rate per successful transaction: 2% on wallet payments (JazzCash, easypaisa) and 2.5% on cards, with volume-based pricing above a certain scale. Be wary of gateways that will not publish a rate before a sales call; you cannot model your unit economics without one.

Should my store still offer cash on delivery?

Yes — but as one option, not the default. COD converts first-time buyers in low-trust categories, and removing it entirely will cost you orders. The goal is to shift repeat customers to prepaid, where your cash settles on T+1 instead of after a courier remittance cycle, and your return rate drops because the buyer has actually committed.

How do I get more customers to pay online instead of COD?

Three things move the needle: show every payment method so nobody is forced into COD by default; make the prepaid path visibly safe with 3-D Secure, a branded checkout and a clear refund policy; and give a small prepaid incentive — free delivery or a modest discount. That incentive is almost always cheaper than the two-way shipping and restocking cost of a refused COD order.

How fast do I receive money from online orders?

T+1 — the next working day after settlement, into your own business bank account, with a settlement report listing the individual orders in each deposit. Raast payments clear on Pakistan’s national instant rail, so there is no card-network waiting period on that method.

Do I need to be a registered company to accept online payments?

You need to onboard as a merchant with KYC. Sole proprietors with an NTN and a business bank account are supported alongside registered companies — you do not need to incorporate first. What you do need is a settlement account in the business’s name rather than a personal wallet.

How are refunds and chargebacks handled?

Refunds are initiated from the dashboard or over the API, full or partial, against the original order. Card chargebacks follow the card-network dispute process and the dashboard tracks each case with its evidence deadline. Raast and wallet payments carry effectively no chargeback exposure, which is another reason to steer customers toward them.

Is my customers’ card data safe on my store?

Card details never touch your servers. Payments are processed on PCI-DSS-ready infrastructure, so your store never stores or transmits card numbers and your own PCI scope stays minimal. 3-D Secure authentication is applied to card payments as standard.

Can I accept payments without a website?

Yes. Payment links and QR codes let you sell from Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp or a physical counter with no store at all — the same account, the same dashboard, the same settlement. Many merchants start there and add a store later.

Which payment methods should I turn on first?

All of them. There is no per-method fee, and every method you leave off is a segment of shoppers who will abandon. If you must sequence it: Raast and cards cover the widest reach, then JazzCash and easypaisa for wallet-first households, then bank transfer for large-ticket orders.
